Welcome To The Country Executive Blog
Hello all, and welcome to The Country Executive blog! My name is Shane and I’ve created this blog to share with you some insights I’ve had the privilege to learn through my years and experiences. Perhaps there are similarities in our backgrounds, perhaps not, but I believe I bring a unique perspective to life gained through a fundamental openness to disrupting my own status quo.
I spent most of my school age years in a small East Texas town with a population less than 1000. When I graduated I had no plan. There were no real thoughts as to what I wanted for myself. I had no idea what I was going to do with my life.
How I Overcame
Despite my own self-inflicted hurdles, through a series of open-minded decisions, a positive attitude, hard work, dedication, personal accountability and probably a little luck along the way I have been able to achieve a level of success that I once thought was simply not possible because of the doubt begotten in my own mind.
Please know I am by no means wealthy as it is defined by most. I live a comfortably simplistic existence and I thoroughly enjoy what I do for a living. That is my personal definition of success. There’s a famous quote that goes “if you love what you do then you never work a day in your life.” I believe that to be true and consider myself fortunate to actually know it.
I didn’t come from money. While we never went hungry and always had a roof over our head, I was never around the positive influences that could guide me to my definition of a successful career. For the longest time I could not even define what I would deem to be success in my own life. That’s a funny thing because success can really only ever be relevant to you and how you would characterize it.
The Gift
It’s a fact neither one of my parents graduated high school, both wound up earning GED’s. I don’t remember much of my mother as she passed when I was young. My father was a hardworking, blue collar guy. Perhaps the greatest gift he ever passed to me was his work ethic.
While I exist in a white collar capacity today to this day I still operate with a blue collar approach. I believe that to be quite the combination in business. Someone willing to roll up their sleeves and dig in with the team will always line themselves up for long term success in my mind. It took a long time, but it eventually led me to find myself and ultimately become The Country Executive that I am today.
The Country Executive Premise
I’m excited to start this journey, and I truly hope my words find their intended audience. I see those that doubt themselves for one reason or another often and it bothers me. Because of my rural roots I associate it with the subculture that is growing up country. Realistically I know not believing in yourself is not exclusive to how or where you were raised. We all have something positive to offer this world. If my experience helps a single person realize that truth then all of this will be worth it in my mind.
If nothing comes of the blog other than me rambling on about whatever I am more than ok with it. A secondary benefit is that I wanted to learn how to build a website. For those wondering, twenty plus years spent working in technology does not equate to an easy time of building a website. There’s a lot that goes into it! Kudos to so many of you that have figured out WordPress and the other fine points of lining these things up!
I should probably pre apologize now for any oddities on the website. Please bear with me while I figure the nuances out. I absolutely welcome and would genuinely appreciate comments, guidance and/or feedback on the site, please feel free to reach out. Let’s do this Country Executive thing!
Conclusion
Last thing, I would be remiss to not mention the Covid-19 pandemic. I hope everyone is staying healthy and doing what they have to do for society to regain some semblance of normalcy. A side note to that is it’s an ideal time to invest in yourself, your knowledge, credentials and those time-consuming activities that when completed can set you up for success down the road. Until next time thank you for reading, and please take care of yourself and the ones you love.
